SBK are delighted to announce the promotion of Ryan Goddard to Associate Structural Engineer.
Ryan has been an integral part of the Structural Engineering Department, and this promotion is a well-deserved recognition of his significant contributions and dedication over the past year.

Promotion to Associate Structural Engineer

A brilliant evening at The Props Awards last night at The Grand Hotel, Birmingham! SBK Consulting was proud to sponsor the Residential Developer of the Year award, with our Civil Engineering Director, Andrew Hardy, taking to the stage alongside host Martin Bayfield to present this prestigious category.
As ever, it was fantastic to celebrate the success and innovation happening across the property and development industry — and even better knowing the evening was in support of a great cause, raising funds for Variety UK, a children’s charity doing life-changing work. Congratulations to all the nominees: Moda, St Joseph, Vistry Group West Midlands, and Horgan Homes — an outstanding lineup!

Blue skies, sunshine and structural steelwork; all very welcoming to see on a spring morning! Great to see the progress at Tenby Street in Birmingham, and very hard to stop taking photos as we can see the site from the SBK office.
SBK are carrying out civil and structural engineering design for Kavannagh Construction, with Rainier Developments as the overall development client.

Another project milestone this week with piling underway at The Lampworks on Great Hampton Street in Birmingham. SBK are carrying out civil and structural engineering design for <a class="KqkLtHqAAjXOQRTERvGIXAwOeCherHGIRUU " href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/cordia-uk/" target="_self" data-test-app-aware-link="">Cordia UK</a>, in conjunction with <a class="KqkLtHqAAjXOQRTERvGIXAwOeCherHGIRUU " href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/buildfifty5-ltd/" target="_self" data-test-app-aware-link="">buildfifty5 ltd</a>. The build-to-rent development will deliver 148 apartments alongside courtyards and communal spaces, and will be an exciting addition to the local area. Architectural design by <a class="KqkLtHqAAjXOQRTERvGIXAwOeCherHGIRUU " href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/bryant-priest-newman/" target="_self" data-test-app-aware-link="">BPN Architects</a>.

As 2024 comes to close, SBK reflect on what has been an exciting year for Pricilla and the team. As always a great variety of projects across business sectors, with some of the earliest SBK projects reaching practical completion, and new developments breaking ground on site. 
There have been some fantastic events attended with great speakers, and even more entertaining guests. Our team continues to grow with 8 new starters during the year, and as such we moved into a fantastic new office still in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter. So we raise a glass to 2024, and look forward to a successful 2025, and wish all of our friends, clients &amp; collaborators a Happy New Year. 🦍

Seasons Greetings from SBK

October 31st has a new reason to be memorable this year for SBK. Earlier in 2024 we sponsored Mutobo, a Silverback Gorilla in Rwanda through <a class="jCfTHtsPmIgRjtBDjLhWBFZYFwBhY " href="https://www.linkedin.com/company/savinggorillas/" target="_self" data-test-app-aware-link="">Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund</a> to help them in their valuable conservation work. Today is Mutobo&#8217;s 20th birthday, and he remains the dominant Silverback in his group with 12 gorillas and growing, much like our own journey. So today we&#8217;ll raise a toast for his birthday, and for the work done by the Fund.

SBK would like to welcome Eddie Njanike to their growing team. Eddie has joined the civil engineering department as an engineer, where he will be a valuable addition to the delivery and growth of future projects.

New Civil Engineer Joins SBK

Whilst we have been introducing our own Pricilla to her new habitat in our new offices, we wanted to take an opportunity to celebrate World Gorilla Day 2024. SBK have sponsored Mutobo through the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund to provide funding to their valuable conservation and protection work in the forests of Rwanda, recognising aspects of his personality in our journey.
Mutobo:
&#8220;This silverback is large and in charge. Mutobo was named after the river near where he was born, on Oct. 31, 2004, to mother Gutangara in the historic Pablo group. He ventured out on his own as a solitary male in 2017. Then, in 2019, after a week-long interaction, he formed his own group, demonstrating leadership, protection and paternal instincts.&#8221;

SBK are happy to announce the promotion of David Gridley to the position of Associate within the company. David is a key member of the Civil Engineering department, and his promotion is just reward for his invaluable input to the team over the past couple of years.

Civils Promotion

Telford and Wrekin Council has moved a step closer to transforming Telford Theatre after submitting plans for the remodelling project which will support the ongoing regeneration of Oakengates town centre. SBK have been part of the project journey for 15 months, providing structural engineering feasibility advice, concept design, survey works, and engineering design to tender stage. The submission of the planning application is an important part of the journey, and we look forward to delivering the scheme.

Oakengates Theatre Submitted for Planning

SBK are excited to announce our team is growing with the appointment of two new senior structural engineers.
Ryan Goddard and Rob Powis joined the business in April to strengthen our structural team after the practice has secured a number of new high profile commissions.
Rob and Ryan’s technical skills and experience will be a real asset to our existing delivery team and we are delighted to have them onboard.

SBK Structural Team Continues to Grow

SBK have been appointed to carry out civil and structural engineering design to this project on our doorstep, and will be working from detailed design stage to completion. The finished project will be the new home and design studio for frequent collaborators <a href="https://www.syntegral.co.uk/">Syntegral</a>.
The existing building was a former storage barn at the William Sapcote &amp; Sons yard, and is arranged as two primary wings overlooking a sheltered courtyard space, creating a combination of openness and seclusion.

SBK Appointed on Sapcote Barn Conversion for Syntegral

Another great project where SBK Consulting have been appointed to deliver structural and civil engineering design services. We are working with <a href="https://etme.co.uk/">ETME Group Ltd</a> as developer and contractor, along with a design team of BPN Architects, The Construction Consultants (TCC) and Shire Group.
The Taylor &amp; Challen 2 development consists of the restoration &amp; conversion of the former lathe workshop on Constitution Hill to provide a mix of one and two-bed apartments and commercial space across 3 blocks. The workshop will be redeveloped with mezzanine floors and a vertical extension to provide commercial office space at ground floor and 26 residential units.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year

One of the challenges our industry is constantly facing is where the next generation of talented engineers is going to come from. In October SBK Consulting Ltd were able to engage with the newly formed STEM Society at Bishop Vesey&#8217;s Grammar School in Sutton Coldfield to shed some light on our work. Andrew Godber took the opportunity to talk to 25 students about the Construction Industry as a whole, his work as a Structural Engineer, and the education path he took to get there. Many thanks to the school and students for the enthusiasm to find out about STEM related careers, and great challenging questions from the bright minds present!.

STEM Outreach Seminar

SBK are proud to sponsor U9 football team Norton Canes and U7 team the Whittington Cobras. The teams, who play in the Walsall and Burton leagues respectively, have both got off to good starts to the season. The Whittington Cobras remaining unbeaten in the initial league openers. SBK wish them luck for the rest of their campaigns and will be planning to get along to some of the games to see the teams play.

SBK have expanded the office footprint in the Jewellery Quarter to include for Pricilla and add a relaxing meeting/reception space. Please feel free to drop by for a coffee and a chat with the SBK team if you are in the area.

SBK has a new office

SBK are delighted to be appointed for the structural works on new office refurbishment with Willmot Dixon Interiors. The development is at the recognised and prestigious central Birmingham address of 19 Cornwall Street and will see the existing building stripped back to the frame before being extended to provide new grade A space with a flexible open floor plate.

SBK set out from the office for a few days to be at the well attended Shedmasters 2023 which this year was held in sunny Barcelona. SBK enjoyed meeting up with current clients and industry professionals as well as having the opportunity in some fantastic surroundings to meet new people.
